Queenstown is a tourist town on the South Island, Otago region in the south-west of New Zealand. It is built around an entrance called Queenstown Bay on Lake Wakatipu, a long, narrow lake in the form of Z-formed from a glacial process with spectacular
views of nearby mountains.
William Gilbert Rees, together with his colleague, Nicholas Von Tunzelman explorer, were the first Europeans who settled in the area. Rees was in search of pasture, and after an initial visit in 1860 returned to the country and make a farm.
Queenstown city population reached 10,500 inhabitants in urban area and exceeds 20,000 inhabitants in the area of the district.
