Bridge of Don District in 30 years became one of the largest suburbs in Europe, the only area of the city which has preserved the appearance of a village here and there.
The exact date is not known when the city was founded, but it is known as St Machar founded a chapel here in the sixth century Celtic and that has stayed here and Alexander I in the eleventh century. The famous bridge over the River Don was started in 1285, but was finished only in 1320. After the city's residents have supported Robert the Bruce in the War of Independence in the early fourteenth century, were rewarded with hunting areas and a coat of arms with the motto "Bon Accord". Architects Archibald Simpson and John Smith have created the unmistakable character of the city, building houses administrative buildings and local granite.
