About Baa Atoll - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Baa Atoll is an administrative division of the Maldives. It consists of three separate natural atolls, and the south is added to the Maalhosmadulu Atoll, Fasdūtherē Atoll and the smaller natural atoll, known as the Goifulhafehendhu Atoll.
Located in the west of the Maldives atoll chain, it consists of 75 cares of care 13 are inhabited with a population of over 11,000 people. The remaining 57 islands are uninhabited, when the option is needed to develop as resorts.
The atoll consists of 105 coral reefs, representing a reef area of 263 km2. Currently, there are several cold surfaces in 61 islands, with vegetation and a variable number of sandy paths.
The depth of the water varies considerably and includes lagoons with depths between 30 - 80 meters, opening into the Indian Ocean
The largest island is Dharavandhoo, followed by Kunfunadhoo.
The lagoons include a variety of reefs, including micro-atolls. The main types of habitat found in the reserves are coral reefs, islands, seagrass areas and mangroves. Coral reefs support or greatly diversity of reef animals, including approximately 250 species of coral and 1,200 species of reef fish, a population of sea turtles, sharks and seabirds.
