Calgary is the largest city in the Canadian province of Alberta which had, according to the census of April 2006, 988,193 inhabitants (1,042,892 inhabitants in 2008) and 1,162,100 inhabitants, taking into account the metropolitan area, placing it so the top five ranked Canadian metropolis. It is situated in the southern province of Alberta, at the edge of the Rocky Mountains and the Canadian prairie, fertile Calgary-Edmonton corridor.
It is the largest Canadian city between Toronto and Vancouver. Draws its name from a beach of the island of Mull in Scotland. Calgary city residents are called "Calgarieni. It is an important economic center, focused especially around the booming oil industry in Alberta. Many companies have their headquarters in Calgary, the combination between the proximity of oil fields, a milder climate and more relaxed tax regime.
In 1988, the city hosted the XV Winter Olympic Games.
The city is located at the confluence of the Bow River and Elbow River from Calgary here extends in all directions. The region is hilly city. Bow River the largest river flowing from west to south and borders the city center in the north.
