Durban is a city located in the western state of South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal province, the Indian Ocean port. The city itself has a population of over 500,000 inhabitants and together with the metropolitan area, reaching more than 3,000,000.
The first inhabitants of the area is believed to have come from the north, in BC 100 000 In 1824, the merchants of the Cape Colony, led by British Lieutenant Francis Farewell, founded a settlement on the shores of the bay named Natal Port Natal. In 1835, renamed Port Natal is Durban, named after Sir Benjamin D'Urban, governor of Cape Colony from 1834-1837.
