Durres is a port city located in the western part of Albania, spanning the Adriatic Sea. Located about 33 km from the capital Tirana, Durres is the second largest city in Albania, representing a favorite location for beach lovers.
Durres was founded in the seventh century B.C. by Greek colonists from Corinth and Corcyra as the Epidamos, and stands today as one of the oldest cities in Albania. Currently, the city has a population of approximately 122,000 inhabitants.
The climate is typical Mediterranean region, with hot summers and cold winters.
The main attractions in Durres are: Amphitheater of Duress (the largest in the Balkans), Tower Venetian, a circular tower built in the sixteenth century which has a restaurant on top, wall Ancient Archaeology Museum, the Forum Byzantine Villa King Zog, located on a hill and offering a view over the city, churches and mosques.
