About El Tarter - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
El Tarter - idyllic resort in the heart of Andorra!
El Tarter is a small village in Andorra and it's perfect for relaxed ski holidays. With its ski area Grandvalira, El Tarter is perfect for families, as many of the accommodations are self-catered and childcare service is available in many places. The access to the Alta Badia ski area is also done easily. Despite its small size, El Tarter is popular because of its après ski parties at L'Abarset Restaurant, so that party lovers will also get their money's worth. The small ski resort is also known for being the host of various FIS races during the worldcup, which means that there are many international guests in resort.
SkiThe "Grandvalira" lift pass gives you access to 210 km of piste which are accessible by 71 lifts. Here you can look forward to the largest ski area in Europe outside the Alps, which came into being because of the interconnection of the ski areas of Pas de la Casa/Grau Roig and Soldeu/El Tarter.
El Tarter offers one of ski access points to the Grandvalira ski area. Located right at the large parking space in resort is a gondola and a chair lift, so that even beginners will find an easy way to access the ski area. From there you will also reach the ski areas of Soldeu, Pas de la Casa, Canillo and Grau Roig. All of this makes Grandvalira ski area extremely diverse. Children will find numerous opportunities to learn skiing in a fun way: at Kids Circus or Badaboom Circus children under 12 have more than 500 m to try out their first steps on skis. More experienced skiers will find several off-piste possibilities as well as a mogul piste course. Freestylers can look forward to the 1.3 km snow park "El Tater", and will be impressed by the FIS racing pistes and boardercross tracks which hosted the Alpine ski world cup in 2016.
The internet is accessible thanks to numerous Wi-Fi hotspots in the ski area. Since February 2019, you can also use your Grandvalira lift pass in the Ordino Acalís ski area, with 30 further kilometres of piste and 15 lifts.
El Tarter might be a small village, but they clearly know how to party here! As soon as the lifts close, Restaurant L'Abarset opens its doors and arranges parties with well-known international DJs and artists throughout the whole season. L'Abarset is doubtless the most famous party spot in the entire region and is very popular in other resorts as well.
"Snowclub El Tarter by San Miguel" at the foot of the piste is also very popular and thus also well-frequented.
For those who long for a little more relaxation then a trip to the spa centre in Soldeu is worth it, or a shopping tour through the country's tax haven. A further highlight is the helicopter round trip, with its breathtaking views of the landscape. If you're feeling brave, there's also the opportunity to go heliskiing.
El Tarter does not have direct access to the cross-country ski trails. However, Grandvalira offers approx. 30 km of trails in and around the resort Grau Roig. Further cross-country ski trails - such as e.g. the cross-country ski centre La Rabassa with 15 km of trails on different levels of difficulty can be found in the South of Andorra, in the resort Sant Julià de Lòira, which is approx. 25 km away. The largest part of the trails leads through dense forests and is suitable for beginners and more experienced Nordic skiers alike.
