About Harrachov - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Harrachov - the loveliest place for champions!
Harrachov is the most well known winter sports centre in the Czech Republic and is situated west of the Giant Mountains and the Izera Mountains, near the Polish border. The town Harrachov (650 m) is situated on the Čertová Hora (Devil's Mountain) and is especially well known due to the continental and world cup ski-jumping championship, which was broadcast throughout Europe. The natural town was founded in the 17th century and became popular due to it's premium glass industry, even before it was discovered as an ideal winter holiday destination. Today it distinguishes itself by the ski-jump, its location in the beautiful Giant Mountains and the diversity of sports activities for all ages.
SkiThe ski area Harrachov is situated in the Giant Mountain National Park. It ranges from the town Harrachov (650 m) via Mount Čertova Hora (Devil's Mountain) up to an altitude of 1,020 m. Well prepared pistes with a total length of 8 km and 4 lifts await you here. Various snow machines allow the pistes to be operated up to five months during the year.
The black piste "sjezdovka cerna" is the most challenging in the ski area. It can be reached by chair lift, which takes you past the ski jump and offers a wonderful view of the sports site. All around the resort there are various smaller slopes which are ideal for the first moves on skis. With the ski pass "Skiregion CZ", the pistes around Paseky (10 km), Rejdice (3.5 km) and Prychovice (3.5 km) can also be accessed.
In Harrachov après ski is written big. Various bars, restaurants and discos can be visited for an enjoyable evening. The discos "Discoland" as well as "Sklářská chalupa " are open well into the night!
Besides partying it is also possible to go tobogganing or play indoor golf. You may also have a bowling evening, visit the ski-jump or go on a trip to the glass factory Novosad & Syn. A shopping tour through the local shops is also enjoyable and a visit to the local brewery should not be missed.
Harrachov is not only an ideal destination for alpine skiers: cross-country skiers can take advantage of 108 km of track around the Čertová Hora (Devil's Mountain)! The tracks along the combs of the mountains are especially nice and make a cross-country fan's heart beat faster. Two tracks, each 7.5 km in length, begin directly at the lower lift station in Harrachov.
For starting on longer tours, the upper chair lift station on the Čertová Hora is the more ideal point: it is possible to reach Špindlerův Mlýn (Spindler's Mill) by tracking over the comb of the mountain via the 30 km "Giant Mountain Ski Path" ("Krkonošská lyžařská cesta"). The panoramic view during this trip is unique. Very popular with cross-country skiers and hikers are the tracks along the Mumlava Waterfalls, which are perfect for admiring the beautiful natural surroundings. The tracks are well-kept and most are also suitable for beginners.
