Ixtapa is a resort on the beach, located in the municipality of Azueta Zihuatanejo in the Mexican State of Guerrero. It is located 5 km north-west of the town's municipality of residence, Zihuatanejo, and at about 245 km from Acapulco. At the 2005 census, had a population of 6406 Ixtapa inhabitants.
Ixtapa is a tourist resort planned by the government, whose construction began in the '70s was a land of coconut palm plantation and mangrove estuaries. In 1968, the Bank of Mexico created a special fund for the construction of new tourist area on the coast of the country and the first two were born resorts Cancun and Ixtapa.
The master plan of the resort was developed by the architects Enrique and Agustín Landa Verdugo and also attended the site selection. The project was organized to create great buildings with irregularly shaped, high-speed streets separating these buildings. Architects have been commissioned to create this city are still residents in Ixtapa.
