Mexico City (Strange Mexico) is one of the largest metropolises in the world, but is remarkable because its main ingredients: music and noise, air pollution and green parks, colonial palaces. The city is bright and exciting, but it may seem suffocating and because millions of people in Mexico City have found a way of life.
Emerging from the ruins of the ancient Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan, Mexico City is the heart of Megalopoli culture, geography and politics of Mexico and a magnet for people from all over the country. Mexicans simply call their capital "City" or, more simply, "el DF" (Distrito Federal).
In Mexico City there are two areas that have been declared World Heritage by UNESCO. First, History Center (Centro Historico), has historical buildings and sireligioase Metropolitan Cathedral (Catedral Metropolitano), one of the most important architectural structures in the Western Hemisphere. National Palace (Palacio Nacional) has spectacular murals depicting Mexican history. Palace of Fine Arts (Palacio de Bellas Artes) hosts the most important cultural events in town and is a wonderful building that blends Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles. The other place is declared a World Heritage Xochimilco Ecological Park. Boats with flowers painted on the channels offering tourists rides in the park.
If you are interested in cultural events, Mexico City offers a wide range of museums. In the North you can visit the Basilica de Guadalupe, one of the most beautiful basilicas in the world.
Every day hundreds of people come to Mexico City in search of a better life - many of them meager remaining cities on the periphery. This contrasts sharply with modern buildings and Chapultepec Polanco.
The growing number of people trying to make his life in the capital, together with the extremes of wealth and poverty, have led inevitably to an increase in crime. Many Mexicans from other cities will warn you unduly, but Mexico City is more dangerous than any other large metropolis.
The city has a troubled history - from the politically unstable and subject to the constant threat of natural calamities. Parts of the old city, especially the cathedral and colonial buildings are sinking into the soft clay near Lake Texcoco, and frequent earthquakes and they say the word.
