Port Douglas is a city in the north Queensland region, Australia, about 70 km away north of Cairns city. Its population was approximately 3,000 permanent residents in 2006. The population doubles orasulu often because the flow of tourists arriving here in May to September.
The city is named in honor of former prime minister of regional Queensland, John Douglas. It has grown quite rapidly due to coal mining and timber industry in the Daintree River and then expanding to the Mossman River, since 1880.
Port Douglas has had many names in the past, Terrigal, Island Point, Port Owen and Salisbury and is situated in the vicinity of enclosed areas such as being a World Heritage Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest.
Surfing is one of the sports popular Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas, especially in winter when the wind blows from the south, creating optimal contitii practicing this sport. Also, due to its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef, many tourist companies organize trips to places suitable for snorkeling trips.
