Although it is commonly said that the city is on a land of 44 islands, only three of them are inhabited - Uznam, Wolin and Karsibór. Uznam Island has an administration and service center and a coastal district, with tourist facilities and health resorts. Interestingly, only 40 km2 of the island belong to Poland, while the remaining part, ie 380 km2 is on the German side. Wolin, with an area of 265 km2, is the largest island in Poland. It is separated from the mainland by the Dziwna Strait, which forms the flooded waters of Cicha and Madejska bays, Kamieński Lagoon and Lake Wrzosowskie.
