About Tbilisi - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
The most accepted variant of the Tbilisi foundation legend says that in the middle of the 5th century AD, King Vakhtang I Gorgasali hunted in the area heavily forested with a hawk. The King's hawk caught or injured a pheasant during the hunt, after which both birds fell into a nearby hot spring and died from burns. King Vakhtang became so impressed by the hot springs that he decided to cut down the forest and build a city. The name Tbilisi comes from the Old Georgian word "tbili", which means warm. The archaeological studies of the region indicate the human settlement in the area since the 4th millennium BC.
