Zakopane - Winter capital of Poland!
Zakopane lies in the southern part of Poland at the border to Slovakia and is approx. 90 km away from Krakow. The Tatra National park borders on the southern part of the city. Zakopane presents itself in the "Zakopane-Style". The resort is build up of numerous traditional wood houses, which were built by the Gorals, a West Slavic tribe. With the establishment of the first hotels, at the beginning of the 20th century, more and more people started to travel to Zakopane, especially to climb the mountains and to relax. In the meantime Zakopane had already made a name for itself and has now become the most important winter sports resort in Poland. The resort gained fame as an event site of many northern ski championships as well as biathlon championships and ski jump competitions. The locals spoil the guests with great service and hospitality, so that you can enjoy a relaxed winter holiday, in this lovely area.
SkiThe ski area Kasprowy Wierch is the biggest and highest winter sports centre in the country and therefore the stronghold of the winter sports in Poland. The far out stretching ski area comprises 18 km of pistes in total.
Every winter athlete, whether beginner, ski enthusiasts or experts, will find a nice choice of attractive and well-kept pistes.Ideal and best conditions are offered to skiers and snowboarders. Should there be a lack of snow, we can always go back to the snow-making systems. Experience an enjoyable and variable ski holiday in a great mountain scenery.
Zakopane has numerous alternatives, apart from ski sports, on how to spend your time, either sporty or leisurely. Whether it is snow shoe hiking or ice skating, there is something here for everybody! Despite the high mountains and the rapid slopes in Zakopane even cross-country skiers do not miss out. Zakopane has some intermediate trails in the area that comprise approx. 50 km in total.
In a beautiful landscape and fresh air you can free your mind while cross-country skiing. Especially, all around the Wielka Krokiew ski jump cross-country skiers can find great trails. The conditions are also good for beginners. So if you are just getting to know cross-country skiing you will find the suitable tracks all around Zakopane.
