The population of Zanzibar is today made up of Africans, Arabs and Indians, and the first inhabitants of this island were the populations of the Bantu tribes. The island's capital is Zanzibar, and the historical area of the capital is Stone town, an ancient city in eastern Africa known for its huge turtle colonies. It was declared a UNESCO monument and, although it was built in the 19th century, it still preserves the narrow streets that lead tourists to palaces, mosques and buildings with Arab architecture and important cultural buildings such as the Anglican Cathedral, the Ruins of the Maruhui Temple or the House of Miracles.
The western coast of the island is surrounded by coral reefs and narrow beaches with a very bright sand, and the best example is Mnemba Island.
The fauna is not as vast as other areas of Africa, but here you can admire some unique specimens such as the Red Colobus monkeys that live in the Jozani forest and other species of birds and butterflies.
Zanzibar is an ideal destination for scuba diving, with the help of which you can admire the marine animals especially due to the visibility up to the depth of 60m, but also due to the water temperature.
South-east of Zanzibar is the area of tourist resorts with beautiful beaches, bordered by palm trees, and the beaches of Bweju, Paje and Jambiani are the most sought after by tourists.
Zanzibar is among the first tourist destinations for young married people, and the sunny beaches and the comfort offered by the tourist resorts are ideal for spending the honeymoon
