Nicknamed "Bird Nest" because of its complex architecture, Beinjing National Stadium was designed with the Olympic Games in 2008.

It is located near the Beijing National Aquatics Center.

In 2002, Chinese government officials have asked the architects to the world in a competition to design. Pritzker Prize - winning architects Herzog & de Meuron collaborated with Chinese group ArupSport for Architecture - Design and Research to win the competition. Chinese contemporary artist Ai Weiwei was design consultant.
