Coopers Tower - details and images
Built in a relatively short period of time, inside the entrance of the city towers, military achievements of Gothic architecture were similar in appearance. Coopers Tower in the central area of Bistrita, which was kept in total only 18, has a height of 25 m.
The building has three floors, of which the superior rooms and rooms with windows. The lower, necompartimentata, was used as a warehouse, with a massive portal to the city. From here we provide, through a tunnel, about Benedictine abbey, where the tunnel continues to the Evangelical Cathedral, then to reach the fortress on the hill former Burich, a hill near the town.
As a plan, it is a rectangular building, its size being 6.30 m / 9.90 m. Compared to the wall inside is a retreat of 2.00 m towards the interior of the old city, exiting to the outside but 5.10 m. The building is made of stone, and interior space is divided into two zones by a partition wall thickness of 0.65 m.
The exterior walls have a thickness of 1.10 m to the outside and inside the city to the ground floor of 1.00 m and the remaining floors of 0.80 m. The ground floor is actually a high basement entrance of 2.50 m. this space is from the city, a stone door frame with a broken arch. There is such a frame, a slightly larger door and interior space, providing access to first floor.
It is lighted by two windows, one pointing Schiferberg another one to the S, window openings that served as drawing.
The next floor with a height with a height of 3.00 m has a vaulted room. It can be reached by a steep and narrow stone staircase. At this level we notice two windows to frame the stone wall of the belt. They have a size of 0.60 mx 0.80 m. Access to the upper floor is done through another narrow staircase. At this level windows on each wall. They are narrow with dimensions of 0.30 mx 0.80 m. Above stairs there is space that includes a small room lighted by a window toward the city. The tower has a steep roof covered with tiles, the height of the cornice was of 10.50 m.
Coopers Tower is part of Bistrita municipality's cultural heritage along with other buildings with great historical value, outlining specific national culture of the city. This tower was left in the landscape of the city as a testament to its historical evolution
