Due Torri - Bologna - details and images
The two towers, both inclined, are a symbol of the city of Bologna. They are located at the crossroads leading to the five gates of the wall surrounding the town (mura dei torresotti).
The highest is called Asinelli, while the smaller but more inclined and is demumit Garisenda. Their names come from families who financed their construction between 1109 and 1119. However, no documents from this period makes this uncertain. Asinelli family name, for example, is recorded for the first time only in 1185, almost 70 years after the alleged construction of the tower where they are assigned.
