Fagaras Evangelical Church - details and images
Evangelical Church is located in Republic Square. The present church was built between 1842-1843 after the previous buildings were destroyed in turn. The initiative to build the church belongs to Andreas Wellmann, participating in bourgeois-democratic revolution of 1848-1849. The real founder, in terms of material contributions, is Carl Brukenthal. The monument is designed in neoclassical style.
Two tombstones found here bring evidence about the existence of Fagaras in the first half century of rotation and guilds of stonemasons, a third being made in memory of a pharmacist.
After the old church burned in 1753 in its place would rise another brick building, in which was later discovered held today a very valuable Bible printed in German (1544). Church Organ is provided.
