The Chinese government began an extensive restoration program, and until now more than 8,000 of the rooms have been refurbished and are again the charm of the past.
An ambitious and costly project, but according to the palace that was the price of five decades of China's administrative center and residence of emperors and empresses of the Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1368), Ming (1368 - 1644) and Qing (1644 - 1911) .
Forbidden City complex is protected by an impressive moat six meters deep and a massive wall, ten feet tall.
