Gallery of Modern Art (Goma), opened in 1996, is housed in a neoclassical building in Royal Exchange Square. Fot building built in 1778 for William Cunninghame of Lainshaw and over time had different uses.
In 1817 it was bought by Royal Bank of Scotland, then moved to Buchanan Street has become Royal Exchange, and was reconstructed between 1827-1832, adding Corinthian pillars, dome and a large hall at the end of the old building. In 1954 we moved here Stirlings Library. After moving the library in 1996, the building houses the city's contemporary art collection. In the gallery towards the equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington.
Goma is one of the most visited contemporary art gallery outside London, offering an exciting program of temporary exhibitions and workshops. In Goma are exposed works of local and international artists.
The gallery is in constant evolution, developing existing collections, the reorganization of space and attract new audiences.
The gallery is open between 10.00 - 17.00 Monday-Wednesday and Saturday days, 10.00 - 20.00 - on Tuesday, 11.00 - 17.00 on Friday and Sunday.
Guided tours are free.
