Garuda Wisnu Kencana Monument - details and images
It is dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu and a mountain or, Garuda - the mythical bird that is his companion.
Currently, Vishnu statue is 23 meters high, although the initial plan was for 146 m. The idea was not without controversy, the religious authorities on the island claiming that its massive size would disrupt the spiritual balance of the island and that nature trade is inadequate.
