Giotto's Tower - Florence - details and images
Giotto's Tower - the Campanile di Giotto is adjacent to the Duomo in Florence, is only a few feet lower than this - 85 feet tall. At the top of the tower is reached by climbing the 414 steps, but worth the effort, since the top have panoramic views of the entire city.
Giotto tower began construction in 1334 but managed to finish only three levels, before he died. Maybe it was a chance, considering that Giotto had no knowledge of the resistance of materials. The tower was saved by Andrea Pisano, who has doubled the thickness of walls and building decorated with statues and niches. In the years 1350 - 1359 construction of the tower was taken by Francesco Talenti, who also finished.
Campanile di Giotto is clad with marble from Tuscany, white, green and pink. In turn, as in the dome, you can climb for a fee, for its beautiful views over the city. In both cases, caution is recommended on the physical effort required, neexitand elevators or escalators.
