At the first level there is the permanent exhibition with the history of the city of Alexandroupolis. It includes separate sections for the archaeological sites around the city, the foundation of the city, the relation with the railway and the port, the architectural character, the historical economic and political course, the cultural and social life and the presentation of the population groups.
The exhibition is articulated through a modern museological approach, using photographic compositions and representative material, interactive media and projections, as well as collections of documents and relics from archive collection materials from private and public donations and entities.
The mezzanine houses the Helen Filippides Sarakatsan costume collection. Through unique exhibits and representations, the life, activities and artifacts of the "Sarakatsan" women from their particular nomadic life are presented.
The ground floor is used for periodic exhibitions and various Museum events.
The museum's collections, archives and library are stored in the basement.
The Historical Museum of Alexandroupolis organizes temporary exhibitions, day conferences, lectures, book presentations, educational programs, cultural events and tours of historical and cultural interest in Greece and abroad.
