National Marine Park of Zakynthos - stretched along the coast south of Laganas Bay to offshore, near the island Strofades includes beaches Limni Keriou, Laganas, Kalamaki, Shecaniah, Dafni, Gerakas and their neighboring area of the island.
Park offer protection of rare species of flora and fauna, their habitat but not in isolation by incorporating park everyday life of the island, a more difficult but more effective protection, residents and visitors alike participating in this project and became keepers and defenders of the ecosystem.
Some species are protected Caretta-Caretta turtles, the main natural attraction of the island, an endangered species found mainly in the islands of Zakynthos and Kefalonia. It is a large species of turtles, head and jaws strong, up to 1.20 m. long sandy beaches of Laganas Bay are the places where they lay their eggs on pleasant nights during the months June to August. These beautiful animals can be seen in the bay water on the ferry to the island of leisure leads Marathonissi (turtle island) or to innotatorii experienced directly from the water, swimming out to sea on the beach Gerakas.
Other species are protected by law Monachus-Monachus Mediterranean seals, migratory birds and local amphibians and snakes and other smaller species of animal and vegetable kingdom.
