Pelisor Castle - details and images
Pelisor Castle is a small palace built on the domain of Peleș Castle, in Sinaia.
Pelisor Castle was opened to the visiting public in February 1993. The museum, with an invaluable value, comprising a historical valence, another memorialistic and an artistic one, constitutes an important component of the cultural endowment of the Romanian people. This edifice is an integral part of the vast architectural ensemble created by King Carol I on the Peles valley, in a period that practically overlaps his entire life lived in Romania. In parallel with Peles Castle, the House of the Knights, the Economy, the House of the Guard Corps, the House of the Architects, the Garden House were built near, and later, between 1899 - 1902, Pelisor Castle, a gift offered by King Carol I to the heirs.
The chief architect of Pelisor castle, Karel Liman, complies with the requirements of the commander for the exterior architecture, with “Fachwerk” elements, but also adding Romanian elements, which give the building a cheerful note: the two towers covered with colored sandstone tiles, like the church turrets. from Bucovina.
Regarding the interior architecture, K. Liman used, without a doubt at the request of Princess Maria, next to elements of "Art 1900", Romanian elements: specific ocnites Prahova Valley, division of space by using Brancovan elements, amplification of functionality by compartmentalizing the space horizontally. Because, by the gradual understanding of the nature of the Romanian people, with which it came to be identified as no other royal character, Maria understood the necessity of including the “national” function in the royal residence.
The interior decoration, designed by Maria in various periods, 1902-1903 and 1925-1928, illustrates her belief in beautiful matters. In the moral testament addressed to “The Countries and the Romanian People” the Queen confessed: “if all the beautiful ones will remind you of me, I will be fully rewarded for the love that I have brought you, for for me the beautiful was a creed. "
Maria's artistic endeavors did not have, as in Carol I, civilizing or exemplary claims, they were the manifestation of her nonconformist spirit, open to the new, desiring freedom.
Like the Cotroceni Palace, Pelisorul will know several stages of the decoration, which will illustrate the evolution of the feelings and taste of Queen Maria. From the "golden nests", where the inheriting princess, injured by the real world, could take refuge to dream away from the harsh reality, until the severe purification of the lines, the geometry of the Modern Style or the inclusion in the personal style of the elements. Romanian art, artistic expression of the Queen's identification with the pains and joys of the Romanian people. This is the reply that "Queen of all Romanians" has given, over the years, to King Carol I and his unruly brotherhood.
Pelisor Castle reveals, through its interior decoration, the romantic, mysterious, daring personality, promoter of a new and unusual art of Queen Mary, because, the style chosen by her for this "dream house" is "Art 1900".
