PICO DO ARIEIRO - details and images
Pico do Areeiro is a peak located on the island of Madeira. At 1818 meters above sea level, it is the third highest peak on the island, after Pico Ruivo (1861 m) and Pico das Torres (1851 m).
The tip is the demarcation line between Câmara de Lobos, Santana and Funchal and is accessible by car. Near the ridge is a radar station no. 4 of the Portuguese Air Force, Madeira Rui Silva Nora Center, a café and a souvenir shop and a gazebo. From Areeiro Pico a pedestrian way communicating with the red tip. The journey takes three hours, and through several tunnels dug in the mountains, we recommend using the appropriate torches and clothing for those who want to do it.
From Pico do Areeiro you can see other places on the island, such as Ponta de São Lourenço, Curral das Freiras and even the island of Porto Santo (weather permitting). In winter, the peak and surrounding areas can be covered by snow, being therefore visited by the island's inhabitants
