Pirin Mountains - details and images
The Pirin mountain is located in the South-West of Bulgaria, forming a common mass with the Rila and Rhodopite mountains. Unlike the Stara platina mountain, for example, which runs through the entire territory of West Bulgaria to the east, Pirin is a compact mountain. It occupies the surface of 2585 square kilometers, with a very wavy relief - with many steep peaks, vertical slopes, deep valleys.
The Pirin mountain is only 66 km long. It reaches the maximum width of 40 kilometers from Sandanski to Obidim. On its surface of 2585 square kilometers, the mountain has 96 peaks, whose height above sea level is between 2500 and over 2900 m. The highest peak is Vihren - 2914 meters.
Mount Pirin presents a rich world of plants and animals. The vertebrate animals are presented by 250 species - 177 species of birds, 45 species of mammals, 6 species of fish.
Mount Pirin has a very picturesque nature, very attractive areas with lakes. The lakes of Pirin are 186, in the northern part of the mountain being over 160, located at very high altitude - over 2000 meters.
