Saint Joseph Oratory - details and images

Saint Joseph Oratory is a Roman Catholic church, located on the west side of Mount-Royal, the city of Montreal, Canada.

In 1904, Saint André Bessette began building a small chapel on one side of the mountain, near Notre Dame College. Choar if it was large, they needed a bigger church and it was built in 1917. It was called the tomb and have a capacity of 1,000 seats. In 1924 he began building the church today and was completed in 1967. Cathedral Oratory is the 3rd largest in the world and the church is the largest in Canada.

The church is dedicated to St. Joseph, whose brother Andre all miracles attributed reported to date. These miracles were based on some healing powers and have been reported several cases of healing of various disabilities and other diseases.

In October 2004, the church celebrated the centennial occasion, all the bells in the city had to bat at 9:00 AM. Although not all churches have participated in at 9:05 AM Saint Joseph church bells rang in response and started celebrating. In 2005 the oratory was added to the list of Historic Monuments of Canada, on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
