Sovrano Trulli - Alberobello - details and images
Sovrano Trullo (Trulli Sovereign), located near the Shrine of Saints Cosmas and Damian Medici, is probably the most impressive example of the town of Alberobello Trullo and single storey house.
Built in the eighteenth century, perhaps the local priest "Cataldo Petra, is a museum of Trullo, furnished according to period. Sovereign Trullo house was called, because in the past hosted the Blessed Sacrament and relics of Saints Cosmas and Damian.
Many consider Sovrano Trullo is the greatest achievement in the construction technique of this kind. Anonymous architect has designed the first floor ceiling vaults in the form of beams, supported by four Roman arches, each supported on the main walls, stairs leading to the second floor is carved into thick wall of the building. Every inch of space is used efficiently by creating niches and arches inside the walls.
When you see the scale built into the wall, you can appreciate the depth needed to sustain this type of building roof.
Located in the Sacramento market, the museum is open daily from 10.00 to 19.00, except when closed on Sunday afternoon, and re-established from 15.00 to 18.00.
