St. Mary Major Basilica - Bergamo - details and images
Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore (Saint Mary Major) was built in 1137 on the site of a religious edifice in the 7th century. Construction continued until the 15th century.
From this building the first structure remained foreign and Romanian-style Greek cross. The interior was altered in 16th and 17th centuries. The dome is made of Giovanbattista Tiepolo frescoes. Notable are great and his tomb rucifixul Gaetano Donizetti.
