St. Nicholas Church - Fagaras - details and images
Church of St. Nicholas, founded by Constantin Brancoveanu was built with donations of Prince and his wife Mrs. Marica, as the inscription at the entrance shows, between 17 June 1697 and 30 September 1698.
The painting of the nave and the altar was made by Preda Painter in Campulung. The narthex was painted at the expense of Nitu Patrascu - "honest old master "of the guild breach. Since 1721 store beautiful murals inside.
The church has an elongated rectangular plan with porch, narthex and nave, apse completed inside the outer polygon. Bell tower rises above the narthex. Porch altar apse and all rooms are provided with domes. Beautifully carved Romanian inscriptions are above the door. The windows are decorated with stone carvings. Cornice under the roof and pillars are octagonal in style "brâncovenesc". The iconostasis of wood, overlaid with gold pieces is adorned with sculptures and paintings.
The model of this church is Mogoşoaia Brancoveanu Palacechapel built in 1688. In turn, the Fagaras church was the model after the craftsmen from surrounding villages have inspired many monuments in the villages raising Fagaras.
The church was renovated in 1921-1922 and is now declared a monument of architecture.
