The Arsenal - details and images
Built by Peter the Great, the manufacture and storage of weapons, then became a museum in honor of the victory against Napoleon. Many of the guns seized today were exposed in the past by the French troops, there is now the headquarters of the Kremlin Guard.
Arsenal Building has a long history. Construction began in 1702 at the initiative of Peter I, in his own plan. The largest building in Moscow Peter the Great's era has been placed in the northern corner of the territory of the Kremlin, between Towers Troitskaya (Trinity) and Nikolskaya.
At the beginning of construction, the works were led by architects Choglokov M., D. Ivanov and H. Konrad. In 1706, the Russo-Swedish War II, and the lack of money, construction works were suspended and have barely finished in 1736. In 1737, during the fires in Moscow, Arsenal building was severely damaged. The building was restored between 1786-1796 under the supervision of the engineer and Kazakov M. Gerard A.
In 1812, before the army of Napoleon, the building was blown up Arsenal. The north-east was completely destroyed. The restoration was led by architects A. Bakarev, Mironovskiy I. Tamanskiy I, E. Tyurin, began in 1814 and ended in 1828.
Arsenal in 1851 was turned into a remarkable museum exhibits the number growing rapidly, and many of the songs are surprising: the helmet and armor of Boris Godunov or collection of Faberge eggs over 50 are just examples.
