Krakow is one of the oldest and largest cities of Poland. In 2005 the city population was 750,000 inhabitants. Historic core of the city is situated on the Vistula, at the foot of Wawel Hill in the south, the region of Lesser Poland (Małopolska).
Since 1999 is the residence of Little Poland Voivodship, previously being the residence of Krakow Voivodship (XIV century).
Krakow has traditionally been regarded as one of Poland's major cities in terms of artistic, cultural and scientific. Also represents the former residence of Polish kings and is considered by many as the heart of Poland, with a history of over 1000 years.
Krakow is also a major tourist center, being the target of over 7 million tourists annually.
