Langkawi (Jawi: لانكاوي), officially known as Langkawi, Jewel of Kedah (Malay: Langkawi Kedah Pillow) is an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, about 30 km off the northwestern coast of mainland Malaysia. The islands are a part of Kedah state,
adjacent Thai border.
On July 15, 2008, Sultan Abdul Halim of Kedah has consented to the change of name in Langkawi Kedah Pillow with Golden Jubilee celebration. At sea on the island, lies its homonym, Pulau Langkawi with a population of about 64,792 inhabitants, the only other
inhabited island being nearby Pulau Tuba.
