Utrecht is the lively heart of the Netherlands. It was built around the Dom tower, which you can see from anywhere in the city, so there is no way to get lost in the attractive center without cars. Utrecht boasts beautiful canals, with extraordinary cellars
on the dock that host cafes and terraces by the water. Like the Dom Tower, Utrecht boasts hundreds of other monuments that each contribute to the special atmosphere of this centuries-old university town.
Oude Hortus in Utrecht consists of two gardens: Regius Garden and Cottage Garden. The first is modeled after Hortus Medicus, a 17th-century garden in Utrecht, mainly used to educate medical students about medicinal plants. The latter is an alpine garden with
low walls, short stairs, ponds and dwarf conifers. The gardens are full of unique plants and trees. The Oude Hortus greenhouses are the oldest university garden greenhouses that still exist in the Netherlands.
A visit to Utrecht is not complete without a boat trip with the Schuttevaer shipping company. Schuttevaer has been organizing boat trips in the Utrecht canals since 1960. Come on board and take part in a trip around the Middle Ages and interesting museums,
as well as the most beautiful facades. Along the way, a multilingual guide will explain the historical importance of buildings and monuments.
