Maldives or Maldives Islands, officially the Republic of Maldives, is an island country consisting of a group of atolls in the Indian Ocean, located southwest of India in the Indian Ocean. The 26 atolls of the archipelago form a territory containing 1,192 islands of which 250 are inhabited.
