Zakopane lies in the southern part of Poland at the border to Slovakia and is approx. 90 km away from Krakow. The Tatra National park borders on the southern part of the city. Zakopane presents itself in the "Zakopane-Style". The resort is build up of
numerous traditional wood houses, which were built by the Gorals, a West Slavic tribe. With the establishment of the first hotels, at the beginning of the 20th century, more and more people started to travel to Zakopane, especially to climb the mountains and
to relax. In the meantime Zakopane had already made a name for itself and has now become the most important winter sports resort in Poland. The resort gained fame as an event site of many northern ski championships as well as biathlon championships and ski
