Windhoek, Namibia's capital, lies in a basin between Mount Khomas, Auas and the Eros Mountains. It is 1,680 m above sea level, 650 km north of the Orange River and 360 km from the Atlantic coast. Due to pure luck or a brilliant attack on German planning, the city is located near the epicenter of the countries. This location has obvious advantages when it comes to governing a country the size of Namibia and also makes it the ideal place to start and plan any Namibian trip.
