The most famous stage of the Tour de France lies in the impressive Grandes Rousses mountain range: Alpe d'Huez. But the region doesn't just enjoy a reputation of the extraordinary in regards to cycling - the ski area has belonged to the world's top 10 for skiers and snowboarders since the 1968 Olympic Games and has therefore become one of the most renowned winter sports areas in France. Sunny pistes with high snow security up to 3,330 m, unlimited deep snow fun and spectacular snow parks ensure a very varied time on the piste! Alpe d'Huez lies at an altitude of 1,860 m and offers a spellbinding panorama of the Pic Blanc summit (3,330 m) and l’Entendard (3,470 m), as well as various shopping centres with cafés, bars and countless small shops, inviting you to explore them.
Hardly any other resort in the Alps combines tradition and modernity so well as Vaujany does. Located on the mountain side, the family-friendly village provides traditional alpine charm with its crooked alleys and streets. In the past the locals used to depend on the regional farming products, however since the last war this has changed drastically. Vaujany now belongs to one of the wealthiest districts in France thanks to a large dam lake in the valley which operates a hydroelectric power plant.
By installing one of the most modern gondolas in France, Vaujany is now perfectly connected to the renowned ski area of Alpe d'Huez and therefore has become very popular with winter sports enthusiasts. If you are also looking for entertainment aside the piste then you will surely be happy with the spa pool complex or on the newly opened ice rink (58 x 28 m) with large visitor's stand and the new bowling alley. Vaujany offers its guests a free parking garage. To save tired legs the ascent to the accommodation there are escalators which operate between the various levels of the village. Numerous restaurants, pizzerias and some bars round off the village's tourist offers.
Les 2 Alpes, with its southern location and sunny slopes reaching up to 3,560 m, offers one of the highest glacial ski areas in the world. Whether summer or winter, great snow is guaranteed in this off-piste paradise. Most of the 227 kilometres of piste are located higher than 2,500 m. The sprawling centre of Les 2 Alpes is quite different than the compact centres of most French ski resorts. The lifts and pistes, which cover both sides of the valley, end directly there. Many shops and boutiques invite you to stroll around, and the outdoor pool, sauna and jacuzzi to relax, and the ice rink to be sporty & have fun. And when you start to feel hungry, numerous restaurants that offer French cuisine can be visited. Apart from that there are many leisure activities - whether paragliding, ice skating, bowling, taking a helicopter tour or ice climbing, the options seem endless!!
