The oldest Bulgarian winter resort is Borovets with a history from 1896! Today Borovets is the biggest and most modern resort in Bulgaria.
It is situated on the conterminous Borovets col and on the northern slopes of the Mousala ridge in the eastern part of Rila. Huddled in venerable pine woods 1390 meters above the sea level (with highest pistes at 2600 m)makes it a perfect place for relax and recreation.
The climate is also considered to be healthy. The winter in the resort is mild and of course with loads of snow! The average temperature during the coldest month January is 4.
Samokov is situated on the northern foot of Rila Mountain among the so called field which is one of the highest fields in Bulgaria. The longest Bulgarian river Iskar passes through it. The town is just 60 kilometers away from Sofia and just 12 kilometers in north- western direction of the worldwide famous resort- Borovets.
Dupnitsa is a town in western Bulgaria. It is located at the foot of Rila, about 65 km south of bulgarian capital Sofia. With town of Kyustendil they are the towns with population higher than 20 000 people in Kyustendil Province.
Dupnitsa is also referred to as "The Green and Shady Town", because of its location which makes it quite shady in summer and due to the abundance of trees in the town. One of the interesting things about Dupnitsa is that it's often called "The Little Italy of Bulgaria". This nickname comes from the fact that many inhabitants have gone over the years to work and live in Italy and every summer they return to their hometown.
