The famous village of Wengen is located in the Bernese Oberland at an altitude of approx. 1,274 m, and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding 4,000-metre mountains. Since 1893, Wengen is accessible only by the Wengernalp railway from Lauterbrunnen. The village doesn't have a direct connection to the road network and is free from cars. Not only the nostalgic wooden houses, cabins and shops, but also the outstanding location - which guarantees an above average number of sunshine hours - make Wengen an exceptional holiday destination.Every high season, a number of cultural events, such as concerts, choir- and yodeling performances, take place in the village centre. The holiday village of Fiesch is the touristic centre of the Fieschertal and lies near the entrance at an altitude of 1,049 m. It's here where you'll have a complete panoramic view of the 4,000 m high peaks of the Bernese Alps, including the well-known trinity Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, and not to mention the massive Alestch glacier and its smaller companion, the Fiescher glacier. When weather permits, you can even see the far-off, recognisable peak of the Matterhorn.

Friedrich Nietzsche spent 7 summers in Sils Maria, and the resort didn't only give him inspiration for his poem named after it. It's not too much of a surprise: after all, Sils Maria is located beautifully in between the lakes Silsersee and Silvaplanersee, at the entrance to the romantic Flextal valley which is car-free and can only be reached by a horse-drawn bus. Since it wasn't only Nietzsche, but also other artists like Joseph Beuys or David Bowie who found their inspiration here, Sils Maria is called "THE cultural centre of Engadin". The museum "Friedrich-Nietzsche-Haus" serves as monument for the poet. But not only the creative ones are impressed by Sils Maria. The Engadin valley is also a paradise for winter sports fans, thanks to its close proximity to the famous ski areas around St. Moritz. The Furschellas, the local mountain, gives you direct access to the Corvatsch ski area with the highest mountain station in the Eastern Alps (3,303 m).
