Bled, a town which until 1918 was called Veldes, is a famous mountain resort in Slovenia.
The city is located in the Julian Alps, Lake Bled mountain (Blejsko Lake), within which there is a small island (Blejski Otok) occupied by a medieval monastery (St. Mary's church).
Swiss naturopath Arnold Rikli (1823-1906) contributed significantly to the development of the resort's spa Bled in the second half of the nineteenth century. Due to its mild climate, Bled has been visited by aristocrats in the world. Today is an important tourist
resort, offering a wide range of sports (golf, fishing, horseback riding) and is a starting point for hiking and mountain trails, especially near Triglav National Park.
